HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Jio Dongle 2 is another Internet hotspot from Reliance Jio
  • It's sleeker than the JioFi and comes for the same price
  • It doesn't have a battery pack and needs to be connected to a laptop

Now, according to Twitter user Yatin Chawla, there's yet another way to connect to the Reliance Jio network - the Jio Dongle.
Chawla tweeted that the new device, the Jio Dongle 2, is now available in Reliance Digital stores along with Jio SIM cards and the JioFi, and like the JioFi, it allows you to connect to the Internet even without a 4G device.

Reliance Jio has been the talk of the town for a while now, and the company has been banking on its aggressive pricing strategy for 4G data services that has set it apart from other telecom operators. After launching the likes of JioFi 2, and JioFi 4G, the company has quietly launched a new Wi-Fi Hotspot that comes with a USB port. Called Jio Dongle 2, it is available at the same price as the JioFi 2 and JioFi 4G — Rs 1,999. While the availability is not clear, we expect the Jio Dongle 2 to be soon available at all the Reliance Digital and Reliance Digital Xpress mini stores across India.

Talking about the design of the Jio Dongle 2, it looks very much similar to any other Wi-Fi Dongle with a cylindrical shape and ‘Jio’ written on the top. Unlike the JioFi though, this new dongle does not come with a built-in battery which means customers will either have to connect it to a power plug, or connect it to a computer. The dongle also comes with two led lights showing the status for 4G and Wi-Fi. The device is said to connect to up to 10 devices at the same time. The dongle comes with a model number Mobile Router JDR810. Reports further claim that the Jio Dongle 2 will come with the Jio app suite as well as a warranty card that will cover a time period of 1 year.
Earlier this month, Reliance Jio quietly launched a new JioFi 4G wireless hotspot that features an OLED display and an improved 2,600mAh battery for Rs 1,999. The device lets you connect to 10 devices at a time. Users can get a microSD card slot that supports up to 32GB along with HD voice calling using JioJoin app on Android phones.
Talking about the first device Reliance launched, the JioFi 2 device is a wireless router that can be used as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot to share internet with Wi-Fi enabled devices. The JioFi 2 hotspot router has also received a price drop and can now be bought for only Rs 1,999. The JioFi 2 can create a Wi-Fi hotspot and share the internet connection with up to 31 devices. In terms of Wi-Fi, it supports 802.11b/g/n standards.  The JioFi 2 is equipped with a 2,300mAh removable battery, which can offer up to eight hours of continuous use. There is also a Wi-Fi disk feature which allows users to download content on the microSD card.
