Google has finally made a decision of renaming the Nexus smartphones. We have potential new names now, and it is reported that the new smartphones will be called the Pixel & the Pixel XL. It is also reported that Google is planning to market the Pixel & the Pixel XL, as the first smartphones built by Google.
Several reports and leaks have suggested that HTC is working on this year’s Nexus devices, which are allegely codenamed the Sailfish and Marlin. Google is expected to unveil the new Nexus phones sometime in October. Ahead of the unveiling, the 5-inch Nexus Sailfish was leaked earlier this week in a handful of live images. Now the bigger 5.5-inch Nexus Marlin has been spotted on AnTuTu, which has revealed a few key specs of the phone.
As the launch of the new Nexus smartphones from Google draw closer, we're seeing a bunch of leaks and rumours about the upcoming devices. While HTC is almost certain to be making this year's Nexus devices, a new leak has indicated what the smaller of the two smartphones, codenamed "Sailfish", might look like.
The leaked image, which comes courtesy Android Police, reveals the phone in a metallic finish with a fingerprint scanner at the back. Interestingly, the area around the fingerprint scanner seems to be made out of glass. If this is the case, the image will be in line with the previous leaks, which have depicted a similar design for the smaller Nexus. Another point worth noting is that in the new image, the device does not sport the new "G" Google logo which was seen in earlier leaks.

As per the AnTuTu benchmark, the HTC Nexus Marlin will boast a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, mated to 4-gigs of RAM and Adreno 530 graphics. It will offer 32GB of internal memory, though a 128GB storage option is also been suggested by the rumour-mill. Camera features will include a 13-meg rear snapper and an 8-meg front shooter. The device will boot Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
As per the leak, the HTC Sailfish and Marlin Nexus will offer a similar design, and will differ only by size. They will sport aluminium bodies with curved corners, and will offer a glass or plastic pane on the back. The image shows a round fingerprint sensor below the non-protruding primary camera and a speaker. The leak also suggests that the phones will sport only a ‘G’ logo at the back instead of Nexus branding. There’s no word on if the final design will include an HTC logo.
According to the earlier reports, the HTC Sailfish will sport a 5-inch FHD display, and will be powered by a 2.0GHz quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor, aided by 4GB of RAM. The phone will come with 32GB of internal memory, front-firing speakers, a USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 4.2, and a 2,770mAh battery. Rumoured camera specs include a 12-megapixel rear snapper and an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. The HTC Marlin will come with a bigger 5.5-inch quad-HD AMOLED display. The phone will be available in 32GB and 128GB storage variants. It will be fuelled by a beefier 3,450mAh battery. The rest of its specs will be similar to the Sailfish model.
