Reliance Jio download speed was double of its rivals in March

New telecom operator Reliance Jio‘s average download speed at 16.48 mbps was almost double of its rivals Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel’s in March, a report by telecom regulator TRAI has showed. Average download speed on Reliance Jio network was 16.48 megabit per second (mbps) in March against 8.33 mbps on Idea Cellular’s and 7.66 mbps on Bharti Airtel’s network, the monthly report by TRAI showed. Theoretically, a user can download one Bollywood movie in about 5 minutes at 16 mbps speed. Vodafone registered average download speed of 5.66 mbps, Reliance Communications 2.64 mbps, Tata Docomo 2.52 mbps, state run BSNL 2.26 mbps and Aircel 2.01 mbps. TRAI collects and computes data download speed with the help of its MySpeed application on real-time basis. Idea Cellular has come up with yet another scheme, but this time for Idea postpaid customers. India’s third largest telecom network, today launched a new ‘Data Jackpot’ program, under which, it is offering 1GB to 10GB data jackpot at just Rs. 100. This offer is exclusive to My Idea app. The best part of this scheme is that the benefits will be valid for three months. The minimum data benefit a customer can get is 1GB, and the maximum is 10GB. TRAI has ordered Reliance Jio to withdraw the Summer Surprise Offer. This order would surely hamper the telecom operator’s plans to rapidly increase its paid subscriber base.And thus giving a breathing space to Airtel and others.  The Mukesh Ambani-led telecom operator, in a statement, said that it has accepted the decision and it is in the process of withdrawing the 3 months complimentary benefits of Jio Summer Surprise offer as soon as operationally feasible, over the next few days, fully complying with the regulator’s advice. Reliance Jio extends Prime membership to 15 days; launches 'Summer Surprise' offer

T Reliance Jio Infocomm has extended the deadline for subscriptions to its paid plans till April 15, and waived off monthly recharges for the next three months to all those who register in that time, intensifying a brutal price war being waged in the market. As expected, the services are not going to end today as Jio has extended the deadline of Happy New Year until April 15, 2017. Also, users can enroll under the JioPrime subscription plan till April 15, which means another two weeks from now. So, those enrolling into Jio Prime by April 15 by paying Rs 99 along with their first purchase of the telco’s Rs 303 or other plans of higher amounts will get services till July end on a “complimentary basis,” under the “Summer Surprise” offer, the company said in a statement Friday. Reliance Jio’s ‘Happy New Year’ plan ends today which is also the end of free services being given to consumers for almost six months. From April 1 onwards, Jio users will have to pay for the data services. However, to soften the blow Reliance Jio is likely to come up with disruptive tariff plans in the next couple of days to yet again create buzz in the industry, according to reports. A Business Insider report said that in the next couple of days starting from 1st of April, the company will study consumer behavior on three key aspects. Qualcomm working with Reliance Jio, Chinese, Taiwanese ODMs and Indian handset firms to launch VoLTE feature phones

Qualcomm said that it is working with Reliance Jio and a number of Chinese original equipment makers, original device makers, along with Indian players like Micromax to launch 4G VoLTE feature phones based on its latest 205 Mobile platform, which has been designed and developed by its engineering team in India. “The feature phone market is significant and it will continue to be significant in India. It is possible for brands to broaden their portfolios with VoLTE feature phone with LTE technology becoming pervasive and affordable. There will be a mass appeal,” James J. Airtel acquires Tikona’s 4G biz for Rs 1,600 cr; companies get legal notice from cofounder

Airtel acquires Tikona Digital's 4G airwaves for Rs 1,600 crore, ramping up its high-speed broadband spectrum capacity to take on Reliance Jio Infocomm and the Vodafone-Idea Cellular combine in a fiercely competitive markwhich is seeing rapid consolidation. The deal, announced a few days after Vodafone and Idea said they were merging their businesses to create a company that will replace Bharti Airtel as India's largest telco, gives the Sunil Mittal-led company access to Tikona's 4G airwaves in five circles - Gujarat, UP (East), UP (West), Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Rajesh Tiwari, one of the cofounders of Tikona, though sought to put a spanner in the deal, slapping a legal notice against both the companies for not providing details of how the proceeds will be split among shareholders. Idea merges with Vodafone to create India's largest, world's 2nd largest telecom company

India's telecom industry will soon ring in a new order. Vodafone India and the Kumar Mangalam Birla-owned Idea Cellular are to merge to create the country's biggest phone company by subscribers, dislodging Bharti Airtel, which has been at the top for 15 years. The new Rs 1.55 lakh crore entity will also be the world No. 2 after China Mobile. The deal will see Aditya Birla Group, the promoters of Idea, gradually raising its stake in the combined entity while Vodafone Group will reduce its own, with the aim of both holding equal stakes over a period of time. As a first step, AB Group will acquire 4.9 per cent from Vodafone for Rs 3,874 crore, or Rs 108 a share, to take its stake to 26 per cent, with Vodafone holding 45.1 per cent.
