Gujarat HC issues notice to Pokemon Developer Niantic

Earlier this month, a PIL against the famous augmented reality game Pokemon was filed at the Gujarat High Court. According to the latest report, Gujarat HC has now issued a notice to the San-Francisco based developer, Niantic. Moreover, a bench of Chief Justice Subhash Reddy and Justice V M Pancholi has also issued notices to the state and central governments.
The PIL was originally filed by Anil Dave accusing the game to hurt religious sentiments by showing images eggs in the worship places such as temples.
"People playing the game get their points in the form of eggs which generally appear in the places of worship of different religious groups. To find eggs in temples of Hindus and Jains is blasphemous, and therefore my client has sought ban on the game from the country," said petitioner's lawyer Nachiket Dave
Another PIL has also been filed by a person called Sanjay Chaudhari who claims that the game has increased the problems of public and road safety with various accidents happening across the country.
"In India also, cases of accident have been reported in Mumbai and Vadodara because of playing the game," the PILsaid, adding that a museum in Vadodara has even put up a notice prohibiting entry to Pokemon Go players.
According to report, Gujarat HC will hear both the PILs on October 12.
